OUR MEMORIAL WEEKEND WAS...

WINDY...
thank you stink face!
I swear to you I am going to have 100 more wrinkles on my face before I'm 30 because of this dang wind...it is physically impossible to not crunch your face together while your walking through the wind...
try it!
Oh and while I'm at it I guess I should mention my awesome white skin and grossly fading hair color...
can you say sunshine?...
or maybe...hair dye!

DELICIOUS...
we all ate entirely too much.
From the grilled cheese to the chocolate chip cookies to the Orange Leaf and back to the chocolate chip cookies...
I did make lettuce wraps for dinner on Sunday.
Which totally cancels everything else out!

ADVENTUROUS...
although we had plans for a picnic and hike Monday it was OF COURSE windy so instead we took a little drive up to the mountains...
which wouldn't be complete without stopping in the middle of the road for pictures!

This is my 'Holy freak a car is coming, take a picture' look.

Here in Idaho we are having quite the Spring!
With all the rain and oh the 9 months of Winter...our water supply is abundant!
These pictures are up at Kelly's Canyon {a local ski resort}
The water running off the mountain has made a natural creek/river/gorge!!

While growing up I remember praying for rain every summer!
All the farmers in the area really suffered from the lack of water...
well not this year!

It's hard to believe this used to be a parking lot for the ski resort!
AND it's even harder to believe that this was done by all the water running off the mountain!

My husband has been getting calls at work for flood control.
We haven't even hit the worst of it yet...
since there is still snow in the mountains that has to melt.

There was a big flood in Southeastern Idaho in 1997 that destroyed houses and towns
but this year is predicted to be worse!

There is 50% MORE snow up in the mountains right now then there was in 1997!
The rivers are overflowing!
We are grateful for the water but man this could get scary!
I will keep you all updated!

EXPENSIVE...
did you guys know that having a child is flippin' expensive?
Well it is!
And I only have one!!
She is 20+ pounds now and was OVERFLOWING in her rear facing car seat so we decided to take the leap and move her up!
She seems to love it...although it doesn't look like it by the scowl on her face...
I think she was over me taking pictures of her!
JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW!
TOYS R US is having a sale right now...I think it ends this Saturday...
Take 20% off any regular priced baby item!

FUN...

ummm not sure you can call this fun BUT we did the MURPH WOD at Crossfit on Monday in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.

This workout was one of Mike's favorites and he'd named it 'Body Armor.'
{courtesy of Maltese Crossfit}
1 mile run
100 pullups
200 pushups
300 squats
1 mile run
finished in 48:28

It was a great way to honor a fallen soldier!
AND a great way to start a fun-filled day...
a day in which I got some much needed sewing in!!

I saw this on Makeit and Loveit!
I just had to make one for Reagan!
I had left over fabric from her blanket I made her forever ago so I used that fabric and made her a snugly little owl!

I decided to make a few for some loved ones.
She LOVES IT!!
Every time she sees it she smiles, crawls over and has some kind of conversation with it that includes a lot of weird alien jibberish!!
OH and SHE IS FINALLY CRAWLING!
FOR THE LOVE it took her long enough!
You can tell she is into everything and goes everywhere by all the little bruises on the top of her forehead.
Poor thing...guess they have to learn somehow!

Overall our weekend was wonderful!
Hope you enjoyed your weekend as much as we did!

DAY 5: PILLOWS!!! HOLLA

Sorry for the ghettoness of the last post there is something weird with the HTML code and frankly I don't know how to fix it sooo let's just move on to the last day of this week of master bedroomness shall we...
are you sad it's over!?
ME TOO!

But let's end with something FANTASTIC!

PILLOWS!!!

There were SO many different styles and designs of pillows out there...
why not save a few bucks because let's be real people...
decorative pillows are EXPENSIVE and although I'm lovin' me some Pier 1...
I love me some money more.

That being said let's start with some simple throw pillows.
Find some funky fabric design and that's all you need.
It's a simple straight stitch.
Cut out a rectangle shape of your choice and sew them together!
Nothing could be easier AND man they are funky fresh!

FABRIC courtesy of {DRAWSTRINGS STUDIO}

This special pillow took me a LONG time but MAN it was worth it!!

I used simple cotton fabric that I got at Joann's for SUPER cheap but if you are looking to spice up your bedroom or even your living room you can use a more expensive fabric and these pillows are sure to shine!

I used this easy and wonderful {tutorial} from Make it and Love it!

Since I don't have a silhouette...tear tear...
I had to think out of the box...
I wanted a fun design on a pillow so I did it the old school way!
YEP I cut out the design with scissors! {GASP}
and sewed them on the pillow{WOW}
AND you can too!

So because I promised tutorials and because I'm ridiculous...
in a awesome kinda way...
I'm gonna show you how to cut, pin and SEW!

Oh and trace!:)
I copied this design from the canvas wall hanging.

I cut it out and ironed the design where I wanted it to be on the pillow.

Then I pinned...

And sewed CLOSE to the edge.

Since I believe imperfection is AWESOME I'm gonna show you all how IMPERFECT my sewing really is...
It's cool though...you can't tell when it's on the bed...promise!

Place the outsides of the fabric together and sew until you have about a 5 inch opening.
Turn it right side out and stuff the pillow with simple battering.

Then either hand stitch or straight stitch on the sewing machine the opening closed.
Make sure you have matching thread so the stitch is hidden.

And there you have it!

This pillow is...you guessed it...
simple, fast and easy!

If want to make a pillow like this one start out by picking the size of pillow you want.
To make the ruffles cut out a piece of fabric twice the length of your pillow.
If you want to make a 12x12 inch pillow cut out a 24 inch strip of fabric.

The length is up to you but the width will always be the same.
Cut:
{3} 2 inch strips
{1} 5 inch strip

Since I didn't take pictures of the ruffling process there is a great tutorial you can use instead!
it's another from Make it and Love it!

Once you've ruffled your fabric down to the size of the pillow start by pinning the outside ruffles first and sew with along the previous stitching.

That is the only picture I got LAME!! I KNOW but I will break it down for ya!!
Your big 5 inch piece is next make sure to ruffle this one right down the middle!
Pin and stitch on top of the ruffle stitch after you've finished with the ends.
Then finish by ruffling your last 2 inch piece in the middle and sewing it to the pillow again down the middle!

Remember when your done decorating your pillow how you want it...THEN you place right sides together, sew the outsides until you have a 5 inch opening...turn right side out...stuff it and hand stitch it closed!

TIP: If you want your ruffles to have finished pressed edges instead of cut ones...simply cut out double the fabric in width fold and press!!

SIMPLE YET CHIC!

Can't forget the throw pillows!
You make these exactly how you make the bedding!
Shown {HERE}!

THERE YOU HAVE IT!
A perfect arrangement of color, style and design!

Now while I make the bed...

...and fluff the pillows!
Let's take ONE MORE turn about the room!!

Enter the OOOHHHHS and AHHHHHS!!

Thanks for joining in the party this week!!
Thanks for the support and ALL the sweet comments I've received!
You're all just wonderful!!

Now enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!

YOU better give your grandpa and extra kiss on the check or call on the phone!!
YOU better say an extra prayer for those sweet little old men that served so bravely!!
YOU better be grateful for this beautiful land that we live in...even though sometimes it doesn't feel like we have much to be grateful for...that wasn't what those men were thinking while they were giving up their lives for us and our children!!
Show some LOVE...and while you're at it...give some extra LOVIN' (a different kind of course) to your hubby or boyfriend or current squeeze...I know I will be!

Keep on keepin' on!

XOXO
