MY FITNESS CLASS: PART 1: NUTRITION!! – Fitness – Video of the Week

I had such a great time at Pinners Conference.
It was inspiring to be in the same room with so many amazing people.
I felt so honored to be asked to speak about something that I have so much passion for!
Many of you have sent me emails and messages about my little tips and tricks on fitness and nutrition…and I’ve been holding back the posts because of my class.
BUT, now that that’s over and done with…I am THRILLED to share with you all my secrets to a healthy lifestyle!
I started out the class telling everyone a little bit about me…but since you can hit that little tab at the top to read all that, let’s just skip to the good stuff!
I already shared this video in a previous post, but I thought I’d throw it on this post as well.
In this video, I talk about how difficult it was for me to lose my baby weight.
I was 200 pounds after having my little boy and I was busier at that point in my life then any other!
Nurse, wife, mother, Primary President, blogger and superhero by night…
I didn’t have the time but I also was out of excuses!
LIFE IS ALWAYS BUSY…
no matter what excuses we make.
But, I am here to help you figure out where to start!
WHERE SHOULD WE START!?!
What’s more important?
NUTRITION or FITNESS

Jeff and I have based our healthy living off of the Crossfit manual and have read it many times.
With that being said…we’ve learned and can testify from experience that the FOUNDATION for a fit lifestyle is NUTRITION!!
NUTRITION IS FUEL and if you’re not fueling your body with the proper nutrition, you will not be able to get the most out of your workouts!
WHAT DOES NUTRITION EVEN MEAN??? 

Does it mean changing your ENTIRE LIFESTYLE? 
*No eating out 
*No sweets 
*No carbs 
OR…ending life as you know it with some DIET!?!  
*Which diet?  
*Paleo (caveman diet)  
*South beach  
*Juicing 
*Atkins 
*Gluten free, vegetarian 

 IF you answered YES to any of those questions you have failed the rhetorical questions test!

DON’T WORRY THAT’S WHY I’M HERE!
If you want to live a healthy lifestyle then there are NO DIETS ALLOWED!!!!
*Don’t trick your body into losing weight with some fad diet 
*It’s ALL about BALANCE AND MODERATION! 
*Lifestyle CHANGE?…more like a lifestyle ADJUSTMENT 
*Think with the pyramid in mind 
 *Keep it clean and simple
*Take all that PROCESSED FOOD out of it!!!
*Eat small meals throughout the day…keep your metabolism up!
REWARD YOURSELF
 This is HUGE for me!
I LOVE me some sugar and it doesn’t work for me to cut it out completely for a week and then splurge for a full 12 hours!!
I stay on track with little rewards throughout the week!
I will give myself a little treat usually every day.

HOW TO STAY ON TRACK ON THE GO!! 
*Small meals: if you eat small meals throughout the day your less likely to crash while your running errands! 
Have your purse packed and your water bottle ready: fill your water bottle and your kids sippy cups up at night and place it in the fridge for the next day! 
It literally takes me 2 SECONDS to grab a couple sandwich bags and throw in some… 
Sliced apples 
Veggies straws 
Homemade trial mix (made from the bulk section in Winco and divided into individual bags)

HOW TO SHOP?? 
*At first it sounds like a stupid question but do you know how to shop for healthy food?? 
*Shop “AROUND” the store not “IN” the store: try to shop the perimeter of the store! The more you shop the isles the more processed food you will get 
*Think fresh and decomposing: will this item go bad in a few weeks?…that’s a good sign!! 
*Buy produce in small quantities: that way you don’t waste any! It’s amazing how quickly things can go bad.
 *WHOLE GRAINS vs. WHOLE WHEAT: make sure you know what ‘kind’ of healthy food to buy: sometimes food will claim to be healthy when it isn’t as all!! 
*Buy rewards in small quantities: Don’t buy a package of twinkies…because the kids will go to bed and you will eat them…ALL OF THEM!
 *Instead buy a package of chocolate chips and grab a handful for your little reward for the day.
HOW TO SHOP ON A BUDGET!! 
 *BUY IN BULK: WINCO has great dried fruit and nuts in bulk
*Shop seasonal produce it’s the cheapest!
*Cash budget (find the best store around with cheap fruit) 
*Shop the most money saving stores! Stop being dramatic and shop at those stores! We can all go to the grocery stores and pick through the produce! It’s a sacrifice you have to be willing to take if you want to eat clean on a budget!
*EATING HEALTHY DOESN’T HAVE TO BE COMPLICATED!!!
*I have listed some of the produce that we ALWAYS have on hand!
*It’s rare that I buy other produce, unless using it for a recipe!
*Fruit: apples, bananas, strawberries
*Veggies: spinach, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, avocados
*Bountiful Basket: go online, order a basket for $25, pick up a laundry basket full of produce!
