You see those girls I tagged at the beginning of this post? Well, they are doing this incredible Halloween series this year and when I saw their very first series pop up all over my Instagram feed, I just KNEW I needed to be apart of it. WHY? Well, why not? I’ve always been so mystified by the art and creation that goes into makeup and photographer. I knew if I was going to highlight any Halloween goodness on my blog, it was only going to be the best.
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays to decorate for as well, but it’s not as fun when you don’t have much room to decorate, so I wanted to share different Halloween creativity with all of you this year! I also love the idea of dressing up with your children for Halloween. It seems a bit funny and bizarre at first, but I feel like this shoot totally bonded us! I wanted to put a costume idea out to the internet world that was different, inspiring, beautiful, and fun! I think this dream team did just that!
I came to Emmy and Jill and told them I wanted Reagan and I to be some sort of woodland creature! Last year I think I saw a million women dressed up as deer. Do you remember how epic that makeup was? Well, I was inspired and knew I wanted to recreate but of course do it with my little mini me. When I think of woodland creatures, I always think of moms and their babes. Maybe I should blame that on Bambi! At about 2 am one night, the three of us came up with the idea of foxes. Emmy recommended that I use her stylist that she has for her shoots, and I was sold on the idea. I didn’t know exactly how “animal” I wanted to take it. When Ashley (the stylist) sent me pictures of the clothing she was putting together I almost died!! I was not even close to the same page as her and yet I was so thrilled by her direction. Emmy and Ashley had both envisioned more of an “elegant, sophisticated, high-class” fox. “Like you live on the Upper East Side and you’re headed to a costume party!” Emmy explained to me. “We can shoot in town and make it classy and edgy!” I LOVED the idea, and totally felt like people could relate so much more than me getting all woodland in the canyon with my tail!
I told my good friend, Amanda about it (she’s the owner of Recycled Consign) and she told me she had a few of these gorgeous felt ears that I just had to try out! Honestly, those ears MADE the look! They really did!! (go check out her other styles and get some for your costume too!)
It came together even better than I could have imagined! The hair, makeup, styling, and photography was completely out of this world.
What was initially a simple almost silly idea, quickly became one of my favorite shoots of all time.
I really will cherish these fun photos forever!!!
