So, story time…
In 2016, I started writing a maternity fitness guide…
Well, that maternity wellness and fitness guide took me almost a year to create. It was hella hard and time consuming but I knew I wanted sooooo badly to do the same thing for self-love and other courses I had planned…
In fact, when Henry was about 6 months old, (in 2017) I wanted to record and release my own personal audio guided-meditations so badly but didn’t have anywhere to record let alone money to rent a studio. If you’ve watched my YouTube yoga videos, you’ve heard my voiceovers…
Yeah, I recorded those in my closet as I sat in my sock basket with the door cracked open, after I put my kids to bed.
I was going to record my meditations on voice notes and then go from there…I don’t know, just figure out a way to get them out there.
That’s been my MO since starting my family blog in 2008? HOOWWWWW has it been so long?
I remember in 2011 spending hours and hours reading over stupid html codes to figure out how to make a custom header or how to make my photos larger on my blog. I had noooooo idea what I was doing. I mean, I could deliver your baby, (ya know, being the labor nurse that I was) but ask me to figure out code and I’m LOST!
So, back to 2017…I knew I wanted/needed a team. I had written the PDF’s, spent hours on blog posts, and had been sharing material on my blog and social media for years. I wanted to do more. To create more. To put all those posts and knowledge out there in one place for everyone to be able to access. As my “business side” of my blog grow, I felt the pull to hire someone to help me with emails and collaborations, but then I felt the pull to not. Is that what I wanted? To continue promoting other people? I had written fitness guides in the past and it’s time for me to think BIG. Think SMART! I had material I wanted out there! But I knew I couldn’t do it alone. Soooo I prayed. Hard. I grabbed a pen and paper and I wrote down everything I wanted for my business, for my family, for my readers, for myself!
Two things became very clear to me…
- I wanted to help heal and empower every women in the world!
- I wanted to make money doing it!
Within a couple weeks of writing that letter, I had 3 different “companies” who wanted to help me “take my blog to the next level…” but what did they all want…money! Like, a lot of it! A LOT! And guess what…I didn’t have it.
I started to get discouraged. I just wanted someone who could help me!
Someone who believed in me.
I wanted someone to believe when I said, “I have it all and I work my butt off! I just need help!”
Even if I didn’t necessarily believe I had it all, I knew if I worked hard, these courses would come together!
With the help of @annaistheworst and @lynn_livingmybestlife I didn’t give up, I just very slowly continued to write and create and I knew that person would come.
A couple weeks later I got an email, from some random drone guy named Chris.
He wanted to expand what he did (sold courses on how-to fly drones) and bring his expertise into fitness. He is a quiet but like a really ridiculously smart guy who wasn’t really on Instagram much. He got the inspiration to expand into fitness one Sunday while sitting in church, and had no idea where he would find a “fit mom” he could partner with. He knew he wanted to take the “fitmom” route because he and his wife had 4 children of his own and it was something he was passionate about.
He ended up discussing it with a friend who suggested Simply Sadie Jane, he had never heard of me.
He looked up my IG and emailed me the next day, without ever watching any of my videos, which I find funny because hiiiii I could have been a hot mess.
We had a FaceTime “Interview” if you will and even before that, I knew he was the guy to work with.
But honestly I don’t know if he knew what he was getting himself into!
That next week we started filming! Filming allllllll the things. I had been waiting for this moment and I had lists and lists of thing I wanted to record. Including meditations!! We did this for a few weeks when it was pretty clear we needed a better routine and plan. I was just recording content for 10 different courses with no real plan of action. We both pretty much agreed that a new workout plan should be the first thing we release because it will be the thing that sells the easiest! A plan compiled of all the workouts I did to lose my baby weight with Henry.
One night I sat down to write the introduction to my new 6 week workout plan (still have yet to release that) and I had an overwhelming feeling come over me that I needed to release the self-love program first.
I had to. I knew better than anyone that physical fitness means nothing if you don’t first love your body!
That self-love course evolved into 5 self-love courses when I very quickly found out that I couldn’t get everything I wanted to into one course.
What I thought would take me a month, ended up taking me 6 months to write.
And guess what, I struggled more with anxiety, depression, worth, trials, hardship, and life more during that time than I have in 3 years. There was so much resistance and yet the universe knew that I needed to grow during this process. It knew I needed to remove my ego and force myself to really fight.
