Grounding. No I’m not suggesting you sit in time out. This is not a form of punishment. In fact it’s the opposite. Grounding will free you of so much! Ready to get earthy with me?
It’s time for you to take a moment to get outdoors. Step outside, take off your shoes, and wiggle your toes into the grass blades. Take a deep breath in and take notice of the fresh air. Feel the sun on your skin and just take this moment.
If you can’t get outdoors you may have to use a little imagination but you can do this too!
Now I want you to imagine that your legs are the base of a tree and you have roots growing from the soles of your feet. Feel them grow deeper into the earth and take root. Place your hands at heart center and take notice of your breath.
Take as long as you need. I will be here when you get back.
This is grounding. Or at least one form of it. Connecting to the earth can look different for everyone. The beautiful thing is you get to decide what it looks like for you. Maybe it’s walking barefoot. Maybe it’s harnessing the power of crystals. Maybe it’s taking a swim in the lake.
The Science Behind It
Grounding is healing, it’s therapeutic, it allows you to realign your body with the electrical energy of the earth. It can help ease anxiety and depression, chronic pain and fatigue, and has the potential to help you sleep! I’m telling you this connection thing works! It allows you to release negative energy in to the Earth.
Tips for Grounding
My favorite form of grounding is getting my feet directly onto the earth. Having the grass or sand between my toes just has a calming effect on me. But sometimes you won’t have that option and you need that clarity, that focus, NOW!
So what can you do if you are trapped indoors and need that relief? You can carry crystals with you. I mean seriously, tuck that sweet gem into your bra sister! One of the best ones is Hematite. It’s one of the best grounding stones and because it has higher iron content it also helps distance yourself from others that may not be helping find the balance your seeking. Red Jasper is another grounding stone that I love. It’s bright red color literally sings to my soul! It not only helps you be more grounded but it also helps you be more connected to yourself. Rounding out my top 3 stones is Bloodstone. As this precious stone centers and grounds you it’s vibration will raise your awareness to the root cause of problems and help you resolve them faster.
Swimming is another fun way to ground yourself. Not just in the pool, but in a stream or a pond or a lake! Feel the water support you! It’s amazing. Take the time to feel the power that water holds. Allow the water to support every part of your body and to give the positive energy that it holds to your body. You’ll notice over time that you can allow your emotions to release more easily and the positivity and light will come faster.
Find that one essential oil that just feels just right. There are so many essential oils that will help and aid with grounding. Some of my favorite ones Birch, Clary Sage, Frankincense, Myrrh, Sandalwood, and Vetiver. Take just a moment before you being grounding and rub a few drops of one oil on the bottom of your feet and up the back of your neck. Allow the essential oil to soak into your skin and all those healing properties to connect you to the Earth in such a powerful way.
